Navigraph has introduced Traffic Sector Overlays in beta for its Charts application, a highly anticipated feature first announced at FSExpo in June. This new functionality enables users to view real-time traffic and ATC coverage from VATSIM and IVAO, the two largest platforms for live ATC and pilot interaction in Microsoft Flight Simulator and other simulators.
One of the common frustrations for online pilots is accidentally spawning at a gate already occupied by another user. With this new feature, you can avoid such conflicts, enhancing the immersion of your VATSIM or IVAO session.
A new panel within the Navigraph Charts app allows users to display real-time traffic and/or ATC coverage for their chosen network. By selecting an aircraft on the map, detailed flight information is available, including departure and arrival airports, callsign, aircraft type, flight route, altitude, and speed.
The ATC coverage overlay provides an overview of all active ATC stations in a region or at a specific airport. You can quickly identify which services are staffed—such as Tower, Ground, Delivery, or ATIS—and check which gates are occupied, enabling you to select an available gate before entering the simulator.
For further details, Navigraph offers a blog post with the original announcement and a complete guide by Jason, one of their team members, showcasing how to use this feature into a typical online flight.
