Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, commonly known as Madeira Airport, is situated near Funchal on the island of Madeira, Portugal. Renowned for its unique and challenging approach, this airport presents difficulties due to strong winds, surrounding mountainous terrain, and a short runway that extends partially over the ocean on a series of stilts.
Landing here requires pilots to undergo special training to navigate these demanding conditions with precision. Despite these challenges, Madeira Airport features modern facilities and serves as an essential hub, primarily connecting the island with mainland Portugal and other European destinations.
Funchal itself is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes and as the birthplace of football star Cristiano Ronaldo. The island is also home to Madeira Airport (LPMA), one of Europe’s most challenging airports. Recently, Atelic launched an updated version of the airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, available via Orbx.
This new rendition includes accurate runway sloping, custom-placed buildings, a Lead-in lighting system to aid pilots, the sports complex beneath the runway bridge, custom vegetation, and more. Available on OrbxDirect for $33.48 (excluding taxes), the purchase includes a planned free update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, as confirmed by Atelic.
